Gack. When I first moved to the PNW, a friend sent me a book to read. The Living by Annie Dillard. Set in Whatcom County in the 1850s. Very glmooy. Most of the people seem to go crazy. Or get killed by someone else who has gone crazy. Seems they were being driven mad by the trees and the dark and the rain.Maybe not the best book choice for a PNW newbie.

I never realized it until about 4 years ago- but I too am really good at living in the present. My MIL almost has a gift for seeing the future- I can hardly picture tomorrow. My SIL recalls every story with great details of the past- I look at childhood pictures a d have no clue who that friend is next to me. But this has turned out to be a great gift with the uncertainty and number of moves we do with my husband’s career- I can just live.

I find I’m often very “out of sight, out of mind” about a lot of people and situations, but there are some that are just really hard to let go of. I hate that.

I love Pride and Prejudice. One of my favorite stories ever. And yes, I will read the Compassionate Life book. I will.

I reread it at least once a year. And every time, I feel that I take more away from it. I’m glad that you enjoyed it.

I need to read Compassionate Life. You are the third person who has mentioned it.
