I wash my body with the Dr Bronners peppermint soap concentrate that needs to be mixed with water. I shampoo my head with the same once per week.

Then after I towel dry my hair and exit the shower I use sesame oil and the damp hair and it acts as a conditioner/detangler.

Every 2 days I just wet the hair and apply a little more sesame oil. I use the one from WHole Foods that has no scent.

But yeah, so glad I got off the conventional mainstream shampoos and conditioners. I was getting really bad dandruff and an itchy scalp so I first got a shower head filter and then stopped using the conventional stuff and it took 2 weeks for my hair to go back to normal and for the dandruff to go away.

Thank you for the kind words! The first couple weeks can be kind of a pain, but I’ve the baking soda and vinegar for well over a year now (with a short failing on a recent vacation when I ran out), and I love it.

Good luck with the henna. Remember you won’t see the true color for three days with pure henna. The “wild” day is usually day 2 or three after you henna. Let me know how it turns out! If it is too bright, you can always add a little indigo.

I started using the baking soda and vinegar rinse about three weeks ago. the first week was awful. I had been having these weird frizzy hairs right at my part line. And as I am getting older, I was finding that I did better if I only shampooed once a week. The first week was horrible. I had a few days wearing my hair up. Then I started noticing, like you, that I didn’t have to do as much to my hair. Like I thought, why am I stripping the oil from my hair and then paying to put oil back onto it?

When I was in high school my friends and I used to make the rosemary tea and vinegar rinse for our hair. I really loved it and will try it again.

I also just hennaed my hair. I don’t know how it came out yet, because it is still wrapped in saran. I am a park ranger, so hope it doesn’t turn out too red, as I do have work tomorrow!

My husband spopted using shampoo or soap about a year ago. It took me several months before I even realized it. ;)He just recently did a product test for a new shampoo, but he used it however many times they asked for (3 or 4) and went back to using nothing. He doesn’t even use baking soda, just plain water. I haven’t had the guts to try it yet, although I’d like to. Do you find your hair is very tangly without conditioner? My hair is very long, like sit-on-it-long, and tangles are dreadful. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my conditioners. 😉

I wonder if men have an easeir time because their hair is usually shorter?Penny at Penniless Parenting uses only water… no baking soda or ACV. This is why I’m choosing to use less baking soda. I’m hoping to rely on it less and less as my hair adjusts. My hair is actually easeir to brush through and I’m losing less hair than I was before! If you read through the comments on Penny’s blog post about it, you’ll see that one lady uses only conditioner on her hair, no shampoo. You might try this. I would work into the process slowly. Maybe drop down the amount of shampoo washes per week… making them less and less over time. Using baking soda in between on the days off from shampoo.

Magaly, if you’re open to it, you might to well with an ACV rinse with honey in it (an excellent conditioner) followed up with some coconut oil for scrunching. I’ve heard great things about this regime from curly endowed friends.
