The summer has been full of transition and change and somewhat lacking in blogging time. But it’s time to dry your tears, the green lifestyle tips and sustainable living soliloquies should be rolling again by September. If you have questions about Ethical Eating, sustainable living on limited time (and money), or anything really, shoot them my way. If you have tips and tricks you’d like to share for living more green, let me know. For now, a quick update to hold you over until September:
June and July were about chaos and fun. There were a lot of thousand mile plus treks for house hunting and job interviews. There was finishing up work; lots of goodbyes and parties, a mindnumbing amount of packing; plenty of wine, and as much summer fun as we could wedge in between. We even got to stay with my mom for a couple weeks (while all our stuff was in storage), which was sooooo fun.
Now we’re in a new house in a new city, I’ve started a new job, MacGyver is on an exciting new path, and the rest of the Worm Clan is thriving. The house is filled with boxes top to bottom, and we have big plans for painting, reflooring, and redecorating several areas, but we’re in, and loving it. It is not the house I originally posted about (we discovered a fatal flaw in that one), but that is very good news. The neighborhood we’re in now is amazing. Seriously idyllic. Excellent schools. Short commute. I was very (VERY) reluctant to “surrender” to the suburbs. I wanted to be IN the city. I love city living – but now I’m pretty sure we’re in the best place for us right now. Not only do we have all the benefits of the city only 20 minutes away, but we also live next to the most adorable quaint little town that reminds me so much of our dearly missed stomping grounds in Beaufort, SC.
But the boxes. Oh, the boxes. I hate unpacking. But I’m also kind of looking forward to going through everything with a fine toothed comb and really gutting and simplifying our possessions. And the re-decorating. SOOOOO excited about that. But there is one room that is giving me pause:
This is the corner of our new living room (The rest of the room is full of boxes). Trying to come up with a color scheme for this room has been killing me. While I would normally love a burgundy room, it just doesn’t work here. Combined with the slate colored brick of the fireplace and the very limited natural light (the room is long and narrow with a sliding glass door at one end and no windows – yet), it is just too dark. Any suggestions on what color we should paint it will be appreciated. So far we’re considering lighter shades of either orange, green, or copper. Oh, and that brassy 1980’s faux yuppy facade will not be staying on the fireplace. If you’d like to see what we’re planning for some of the other rooms, check out my Pinterest renovation board.
There will probably be a lot more about my new job(s) here on UEW in the weeks and months to come. For now, I am engaged in an intense “Immersion” program with several other “mid-career professionals” who are also working in Detroit. So far, it has been an absolute blast.
So there is your quick and dirty update. We’re getting settled, and and Urban Earthworm will be returning soon. Tune in Monday for a guest post from the lovely Katie Moore of Moore from Katie.
I’m so glad you’re back to blogging. I have definitely missed you around here!
